On Friday, January 14th from 7-10pm there will be an open audition for the 1st Annual Butterfly Idolz Talent Showcase event for ages 5-16. Ten talented boys and girls will be selected by local celebrity judges from the auditions to go on to compete at the main event on February 25 and be crowned the 2011 Butterfly Idol. In addition to identifying local talent, this event will help raise awareness about Lupus, a disease that affects over 1.5 million Americans. Funds raised from this event will benefit the Lupus Foundation of America’s Southeast Florida Chapter.

Local celebrity judges include Peter Bailey, NBC NiteCap host, Award-Winning Writer for the Miami Herald, and co-author of Trick Daddy’s memoir Magic City: Trials Of A Native Son; Baby Blue of American R&B/Hip-Hop Group, Pretty Ricky; Shelby Rushin, on-air personality for 99 Jamz; and Miami native and Pop Soul singer and songwriter, Sa’mya.

Lighthouse for the Blind-Saint Louis, a non-profit corporation that assists legally blind people maintain dignity and independence by offering Employment, Education and Support Services, is excited to announce the continued growth of their Arts and Entertainment Accessibility program in conjunction with the Fox Theatre.

The Lighthouse for the Blind and the Fox Theatre have partnered to bring descriptive audio shows for the blind and visually impaired back to the Fabulous Fox. Through the generosity of the Lighthouse, a legally blind individual and their companion are being offered tickets for descriptive audio shows at a discount with the Lighthouse funding half of the cost of each show ticket.

“I have attended many Fox performances in my lifetime. I enjoy musical theatre very much, but I have never been able to see the sets, costumes, or dancing,” said Julie M., a blind descriptive audio show attendee. “The descriptions took care of that. I loved the descriptive audio, and I thought it was very useful.  At this performance, I was able to know what was happening, as it was happening, instead of having to ask about it later. It was amazing!”

All descriptive audio show attendees will be asked to complete a short survey regarding their experience using the descriptive audio, so that both the Lighthouse and the Fox Theatre can continue to improve this valuable service in ways that will most enhance the experience by blind or visually impaired patrons.

The Fox Theatre, first opened in January 1929, has been a showcase for movie premieres, great stage attractions, special events, and has showcased many famous personalities in show business.

Also known as LHB Industries, the Lighthouse was founded in 1933 and today maintains offices and manufacturing facilities that currently employ more than 60 legally blind persons at two locations in Saint Louis County.

Rising bluegrass stars Dailey & Vincent return to the PineCone stage with a broader repertoire and new accolades! They’re nominated for a Grammy this year for their take on “Elizabeth” on “Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers.” And People featured Dailey & Vincent alongside Rascal Flatts, the Indigo Girls and others in December’s Country Special playlist with their tune “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem.”

The International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) has recognized Dailey & Vincent as Entertainers of the Year for three consecutive years! Their 2010 IBMA accolades included recognition in five categories, including Entertainer of the Year, Vocal Group of the Year, and Album of the Year for their latest album, “Dailey & Vincent Sing the Statler Brothers.” Both Dailey and Vincent have been bluegrass musicians throughout their careers, and they never depart from that core sensibility in their music. But, like the earliest icons, they also push the envelope. From their tribute album to the Statler Brothers to their a cappella gospel “CD Singing from the Heart,” Dailey & Vincent seamlessly blend traditional and contemporary bluegrass traditions in their toe-tapping, crowd pleasing performances.

Soon after, they recorded a Christmas song with Dolly Parton, and they recorded “Beautiful Star of Bethlehem” as a duet for the compilation CD, “Christmas Grass Vol. 2 2004.” Fans of the song started asking for more, and Dailey and Vincent began talking about starting a band and doing duets.

Once they decided to walk away from the steady salaries they were drawing from their jobs as sidemen (Dailey was with Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver; Vincent was with Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder), they drew up a business plan and set to work: they booked 120 dates for 2008 without a CD and without ever having performed a full show together.

They’d also set about assembling a strong band, and in their three years together, they’ve grown tighter and continued to shine.
